My journey from a Plastics Technologist to Designer -
The year was 2012, and I was a recent Plastics Technology graduate. I began my career as a Materials Executive for a car part manufacturer. After a year in manufacturing, I was promoted to the Research and Development team, where I was involved in 'application-oriented material selection.' During this time, I collaborated closely with designers to develop plastics parts for carburetors and ABS vacuum pumps. The interactions with the designers and the thought process they put into making the product inspired me; it was at that point that I decided I wanted to be a designer.
Making a career change after three years of work was a difficult decision. After much perseverance, I was accepted into a master's programme in design at the Indian Institute of Technology [Department of Design] Guwahati.
Life as a Designer -
After graduation, my career as a product designer proved to be multifaceted. I had the wonderful opportunity to work as a Product Design Intern at AIRBUS, where I was involved in innovation and future product development. I was also in charge of protospace, which allowed me to gain diverse knowledge and expertise in design. As part of my research, I came across the opportunity to work for Flintobox, a start-up that creates learning-based activity boxes for child development. I was offered a job as a designer, which I gladly accepted. Where I managed multiple portfolios, led design teams, pitched ideas to VCs, and rebuilt products. During my time there, I was able to launch a DIY Stem products and mentored other designers.
